A Ugandan private company who farms, processes and markets cocoa. It produces chocolate, cocoa powder and cocoa butter. It exports half of it produces to key export market countries such as Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda. Pink Foods Industries ltd is in the process of acquiring UNBS certification.
Port of Amsterdam
Port of Amsterdam is the world’s largest port for cocoa bean imports. All facilities, from transhipment to manufacturing, are available in the region. Big players in the cocoa industry, like Cargill, OLAM and Dutch Cocoa are established in de Amsterdam region. Companies handling and storing cocoa or cocoa products are Vollers, CWT Commodities, Katoen Natie, Commodity Centre Nederland, SteinwegHandelsveem, HD Cotterell, ACS and DSV. All is done in one region. Each year more than 600,000 tonnes of cocoa is transhipped in the port of Amsterdam. Mostly in sea containers, but also in bulk and breakbulk. 95% percent of the cocoa beans comes from Ivory Coast and Ghana, 5% from Central America.

Rwenzori Farmers’ Co-operative Union
A Ugandan cooperative union exporting around 170 MT of cocoa to Europe per year. Its key export market is the United Kingdom. We have a Fairtrade certificate acquired in 2005 and lasting until 2020.

A Ugandan cooperative union whose main activities include primary and secondary processing as well as marketing for export market. We are currently in the process of acquiring 3 certificates, namely Fairtrade, organic and UTZ certificates. Its members have so far produced, and exported, 6.228 MT to Europe since 2014. Its key export country is Switzerland.

Tricocoa is a producer and exporter of fine & flavour cocoa beans from Venezuela. The company’s operations are based in Venezuela but we also have a commercial office in London, UK, in order to be more accessible to our European clients.

A Ugandan private company who purchases dried cocoa beans from farmers which will then get processed through primary and secondary processes. It also markets the processed cocoa abroad. It acquired a year-long organic certification of farmers in July 2018. All purchased cocoa totalling 1000-1500 per year gets exported.
Twilight holdings Uganda limited
A Ugandan private company who buys cocoa from farmers and farmers’ networks and sells cocoa to domestic companies who export. It trades around 154 MT per year on average.

Uganda Coffee Development Authority
Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) is a government agency that was instituted to promote, oversee and regulate the coffee sub sector in Uganda. The institution is in the process of acquiring the mandate to include cocoa sector development in its purview. UCDA supports research, promotes production, controls the quality and improving the marketing in order to optimize foreign exchange earnings for the country and improve farmers’ lives. The authority ensures that the value chain stakeholders abide by international standards and that they provide value addition at all stages from production to consumption.
Uganda Export Promotion Board (UEPB)
Description of the institution: Uganda Export Promotion Board (UEPB) is a public Trade Support Institution established to coordinate the development and promotion of Uganda’s exports. It is the national focal point for export promotion and development. It is supervised by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, falling directly under the External Trade Department.

Uncommon Cacao sources high quality, transparently traded cacao from thousands of smallholder farmers across 8 countries, including Belize and Guatemala where we work directly with farmers to produce and process high-quality cacao through our at-origin companies Maya Mountain Cacao and Cacao Verapaz. Zorzal Cacao
Zorzal Cacao is a leading provider of fine flavor cacao to domestic and international artisan chocolate makers. We provide the craft chocolate market with cacao varietals selected for their nuanced flavors and intense aromas, carefully tending to the development of these flavors through natural fermentation and drying cycles. As our farm grows, we continue to explore new varietals and immerse ourselves in the study of fermentation and as the second and third stages of flavor development.
Rikolto DR Congo - Zoto
Cocoa is a recent crop in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo. After tracheomycosis devastated robusta coffee plantations, interest for cocoa has increased consistently and export figures reach 20.000 tons a year today. All of this volume is bought by just a few key buyers of bulk cocoa. Rikolto encourages smallholder cocoa growers to organize into cooperatives and improve their cocoa processing methods to develop fine favor cocoa, diversify their products, access remunerative markets and improve their income. Initial experiments in collaboration with ZOTO have confirmed the potential of this approach and a full scale fine cocoa development program is in preparation.
