Amsterdam Sustainable Cocoa Conference

2021 is declared as the UN International Year for the Elimination of Child Labor. In Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana alone some 1.5 million children are still working in cocoa production. Multi-stakeholder dialogue platforms have been launched, bringing companies, civil society, and government agencies together at a national level in search of inclusive and holistic approaches. However, there are still many challenges to tackle child labor in the cocoa supply chain. Discussions cover issues on living wages, chain transparency, gender inequality, due diligence regulations, the accuracy of detailed data on the matter, and the lack of a future proof structure for the cocoa economy. This year’s Amsterdam Sustainable Cocoa Conference will have the theme of child labor throughout the program to discuss the perpetuating problems causing child labor and solutions that could lead to its eradication.
